Why Does My iMessage Keep Turning Off? Possible Reasons and Fixes

iMessage is a great way to send and receive messages over Wi-Fi or cellular data. However, sometimes iMessage can stop working for no apparent reason. If your iMessage keeps turning off, here are a few things you can try to fix the problem.

Restart your device

Restart your iPhone or iPad by holding down the power button until the slider appears. Then, slide the power button to the right to turn off your device.

Wait a few seconds, then turn your device back on by pressing and holding the power button for a few moments again.

Check your internet connection

iMessage needs an internet connection to work. Check that you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, or have cellular data turned on.

Sign out of iMessage and sign back in

This can sometimes reset iMessage and fix the problem. Go to Settings > Messages and tap iMessage. Tap Sign Out and then tap Sign In again.

Update your iOS software

Make sure your iPhone or iPad is running the latest version of iOS.

Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check for updates and install the latest version if you aren’t already running it (this could fix other issues too).

Reset your network settings

This will reset all of your network settings, including your Wi-Fi passwords and cellular settings, which will solve iMessage problems caused by a network issue.

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Other things to try

If you’ve tried all of these steps and your iMessage is still turning off, disable any VPNs or proxy servers you’ve set up, uninstall applications that were installed around the time the issue started, and back up and restore your device.

Failing those, it’s time to contact Apple Support for help.
